The town is home to the University of Mount Olive and is about 20 miles from Cliffs of the Neuse State Park, which offers hiking trails and river views. Goldsboro is about 25 minutes away and provides shopping, dining, and access to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, while Raleigh is roughly 75 minutes away for museums, live entertainment, and airport access. The area also places travelers within reach of eastern North Carolina day trips, including Wilmington and the Atlantic coast, which are about 2 hours away.
