Production Internship

The Production Internship is a developmental 10-week program role designed to provide students with comprehensive, hands-on exposure to Martin Marietta's Aggregates business and mining operations. Reporting directly to plant leadership, the intern will participate in an immersive learning experience that combines operational training, leadership development, safety management, and production support within an active aggregate mining environment.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

• Demonstrate a strong commitment to Martin Marietta's safety culture and environmental compliance standards.
• Observe, identify, and communicate safety concerns, near misses, and potential operational risks.
• Support compliance with MSHA, environmental regulations, and company safety policies.
• Assist with workplace inspections, safety audits, corrective actions, and incident prevention initiatives.
• Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with Martin Marietta's Mission, Vision, Values, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.
• Learn and support all stages of aggregate production from extraction through finished product shipment.
• Gain practical understanding of quarry planning, production scheduling, and material flow management.
• Assist in monitoring plant performance, operating efficiency, and production targets.
• Observe and participate in daily production activities under appropriate supervision.
• Support production teams in maintaining consistent throughput and product quality.
• Develop knowledge of material processing equipment and system interactions throughout the plant.
• Safely operate designated plant and mobile equipment after successful completion of required training and authorization.
• Participate in aggregate quality control testing and material sampling activities.
• Support efforts to ensure compliance with customer specifications and product standards.
• Work closely with plant managers, supervisors, and operations leaders to understand effective leadership practices.
• Observe and learn the responsibilities associated with managing production teams and plant performance.
• Develop skills in communication, problem solving, decision making, accountability, and team collaboration.
• Participate in leadership development activities designed to prepare future operations professionals.
• Build relationships across multiple functional areas including operations, maintenance, engineering, logistics, and quality control.
• Learn how aggregate products are mined, processed, sold, and delivered to customers.
• Understand key business drivers affecting aggregates operations, including productivity, cost management, sustainability, and customer service.
• Complete assigned internship projects that support operational priorities and create measurable business value.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Construction Management.
• Valid Driver's License

Work Experience:

• No work experience is required; 6 months – 1 year of prior internship or a combination of internship and work experience, is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• MSHA compliance and regulation
• Familiarity and knowledge of mining and aggregates industry
• Proficient Computer skills (MS Word & Excel)

• Effective communicator (written and spoken)

Additional Details:

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for plant maintenance and equipment servicing.

Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders.

Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet.

Working Conditions:

All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry, and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.

Compensation:

The hiring range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00 exclusive of benefits or bonuses (discretionary and non-discretionary). The offered base compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, business need, market conditions, proficiencies, skills, education, and experience. Additionally, at Martin Marietta we place a high value on internal pay equity and will consider the compensation for those in similarly situated roles and direct team members. The hiring range for this role represents the base compensation we expect to pay for the position at time of hire and does not represent the total possible base pay of the position.
